What is the TNC?
The Teatre Nacional de Catalunya (TNC), located in Barcelona, is one of the most important cultural institutions in Catalonia. Opened in 1996, it started out with the basic objective of consolidating high quality theatre productions at a national and international level that, based on aesthetic risk and the desire to serve the community that defines public theatre, completes a theatre panorama characterised by the creativity and richness of the initiatives.
Since its official inauguration, on 11th September 1997 with L’auca del senyor Esteve, the TNC has programmed theatre shows but without overlooking other disciplines such as dance, music, opera, circus or puppets.
The building of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, located in the plaça de les Arts, near the plaça de les Glòries, has three auditoria. Designed by the prestigious Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill, it is one of the emblematic buildings of Barcelona.
