Eichmann in Jerusalem
- Hannah Arendt
- Directed by Jernej Lorenci
- Sala Petita
- 18/06/25 al 19/06/25
Those who don’t know the past are condemned to repeat it *
Based on Hannah Arendt's book and her reflection on the 'banality of evil', Eichmann in Jerusalem delves into the shadows of Adolf Eichmann, a German soldier and SS Lieutenant Colonel, during his trial for war crimes. It exemplifies how a person can perpetrate atrocities under the umbrella of obedience and bureaucracy.
Beyond the desire to advance his career, Eichmann showed no trace of anti-Semitism or psychological damage and claimed that he was simply doing his job.
Now, Croatian director Jernej Lorenci uses this starting point to investigate historical facts, analyse sociological and philosophical texts, personal visions of the performers, and familiar elements of popular culture to talk about evil and its consequences.
A show that arrives at a time of universal shift towards the far right and with the conviction that collective memory can save us from totalitarianism. A reflection on morality, individual responsibility and the role of ethics in institutions.
The production comes to the TNC in the framework of an international exchange with the Zagrebačko Kazalište Mladih - Zagreb (ZKM-Zagreb).
