Artistic Director of the TNC

Xavier Albertí

Musician, composer and stage director

Graduate in Stage Direction from the Institut del Teatre de la Diputació de Barcelona and Autonomous University of Barcelona. From 1996 to 1999, he directed the Festival d’Estiu de Barcelona Grec, and from 2004 to 2006 the Department of Creation at the Institut Ramon Llull. He was director of cultural services at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, where he has also taught and been pedagogic coordinator of the Higher School of Dance. He has also given courses at the Obrador de la Sala Beckett, the Obrador d'Estiu d'Argelaguer, Menéndez Pelayo Summer University, Girona and Lleida Universities.
During his years of training, he studied piano and musical composition with Luis de Pablo, Cristobal Halffter, Tomás Marco, Helmuth Lachenmann, Carmelo Bernaola, Armando Gentilucci and Karl-Heinz Stockhausen. His compositions have premiered in diverse contemporary music festivals.
In 2007 he worked with Pere Portabella and Carles Santos on the script for the film Die Stille vor Bach (The Silence Before Bach). The same year he directed the Catalan poetry recital with Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson and Patti Smith, as part of the Catalan culture festival in New York Made in Catalunya at the Baryshnikov Art Center. In 2008 he founded the company La Reina de la nit with Lluïsa Cunillé.
