An experience of the senses to discover the most remote spot in the universe
Ultima Thule refers to the classical geography term of a distant and remote place that is known to exist but has never been explored. In the past it was thought to be a lost island in the Baltic Sea. In 2018, NASA gave this name to the most distant known astronomical object in the solar system.
Ultima Thule is that inner island that emerges within our sea of ineffable thoughts to which we are irredeemably attracted. Where we seek answers that cannot be uttered, where the everyday gesture becomes abstract. On the stage we present a shamelessly familiar device that becomes a current metaphor of the ancient totems, objects full of spiritual energy that amidst nature are turned into places of pilgrimage and veneration.
This creation will open the 18th Festival de Creació Contemporània del Poblenou, a multidisciplinary festival of contemporary performing arts committed to culture and society. This year the TNC and the Festival begin a line of cooperation in the format of co-production with the aim of supporting artists working with new performing languages.
A dull pang in the heart, suddenly, in the middle of the night, like the flash of a wild creature among domestic emotions and pet thoughts.
(Fragment of Ultima Thule, story by Vladimir Nabokov)
