La niña gorda
- Santiago Rusiñol
- Directed by Xavier Albertí
- Sala Tallers
- 19/12/18 al 04/01/19
Daughter of an alcoholic freethinker and with a sentimental education based on melodramas, the fat girl is an innocent child who will end up being exhibited as a circus attraction because of her ample flesh, surrounded by a sordid world that continuously feeds her ingenuousness to financially profit from her.
Heralded as one of the best Catalan novels of the first half of the 20th century, La ‘Niña Gorda’ is an acerbic parody of La Ben Plantada by Eugeni d’Ors. With this work, Rusiñol crudely explores the idealism of Noucentisme, which sought to establish the foundations of a new state without taking into account the miserable existence of much of Catalan society.
