Six European theatres reflect on democracy in our society.

Three male playwrights and four female playwrights participate in the creation of a group play about democracy. The result, Running for Democracy, will be performed in the different theatres that are part of the Between Lands project. An experience that stimulates reflection, establishes links between countries and defends culture as a benchmark of democracy in today's Europe.

Between Lands is an international project led by the TNC that brings together theatres in Catalonia, Spain, France, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Greece to share stories and reflect on democracy in our society. This project will enable the writing of a group play by three male and four female playwrights to be performed in theatres in the project. The resulting play is Running for Democracy.

The theatre is the heart of democracy. They are as one and have existed together since the creation and invention of theatre. In Between Lands we recreate Europe through writing, to come together and tell each other stories. A mental map of a possible continent, a possible future. Creating a library of texts, bringing them to the stage, thinking and rethinking democracy, meeting people and talking about these issues. All at once. That’s why I love this project.
