A reflection on insanity, paranoia and mistreatment and abuse perpetrated in the name of science.
Konrad has such good hearing that he has managed to hear almost everything. Now, he has secluded himself in La Calera, an old lime kiln, with his wife. In the silence of this isolated building, Konrad tries with little success to carry out a study that he considers vital and has obsessed him. But an incident on Christmas Eve will change everything.

After the pleasure of creating Nous sommes repus mais pas repentis (Déjeuner chez Wittgenstein) at the Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne in 2016, we continue our work on Thomas Bernhard. La Plâtrière provides material unique in Bernhard’s play that leads us to confront the question of self-withdrawal, confinement, madness, and the paranoia that this withdrawal creates. Thomas Bernhard has written an acid, brutal and exciting reflection on the condition of modern man, of his fear of the stranger, of the other, on what great scientific work can enable us to legitimise about mistreatment and abuse.
Isolated from the world, of their own free will, locked in a quarry, the two protagonists compete with each other with blackmail and humiliation. Through the few witnesses of this drama of modernity, we gradually explore this couple’s private world where the madness of one is always the remedy or condemnation of the other.
