Batecs
What do we do with the idea of, and hope and desire for this being?
Three protagonists − Carla, Joana and Angie − encounter death while expecting life and have to deal with perinatal bereavement in different phases of pregnancy.
Three stories that, from different moments in life, tread paths marked by solitude, ethics and silence.
Three women facing the desire to be a mother or the pressure to do so, the decision to have an abortion, infertility, the commodification of assisted reproduction, recurrent miscarriages, conflict within couples and families, guilt, the coldness of medical language, the infantilisation and pathologisation of pregnant women and, in general, all forms of violence that pierce the hearts and bodies of women during their fertile years.
Perinatal bereavement
It had been a day since he died and her belly was a coffin.
In the operating theatre, no comfort.
“It’s gone neat and clean!”
She is silent and feels longings: she had never been dirty.
