A woman desperately searching for happiness

Emma Bovary lives a routine and unsatisfying life alongside her husband. Her boredom squeezes her as tight as her corsets and she will soon be looking for more attention, lovers and new stimuli to fill the existential void.

Emma struggles to meet the expectations ‒ her own and others’ ‒ of a society that expects her to be perfect, but she continues to fight for her last wish, to feel complete.

A story marked by love, desire, adultery and death.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Madame Bovary was a bomb in world literature. This story about an adulterous wife who commits suicide was so shocking that it was considered an attack on French society and led the author, Gustave Flaubert, to be put on trial.

Its protagonist, Emma Rouault, is full of life and desperately searching for happiness, but she can only leave her small world ‒ her father's house ‒ by marrying Charles Bovary, her father's doctor and with a world even smaller than her own.

To escape boredom and paralysis, Emma will take refuge in reading love stories and will be the victim of all kinds of stereotypes, of those who have killed the women who have followed them.
