Identity, sex, literature and country
22 years encapsulated in a diary. David Vilaseca captured his day-to-day life on paper from 1987, when he was 23 years old and a young student on an American campus, until 2009, when he was 46 and shortly before he died. Now, Xavier Albertí directs the theatrical adaptation of this revealing novel that turns the self, fears, sex and other personal experiences into high-flying literature.
“Often in life we learn the real reasons we do things over the fullness of time.”

"I sleep with people to stop being me for a while, to stop being David and see what the world is like from another perspective." Els homes i els dies features, in diary format, the writing of David Vilaseca between 1987 and 2009, the year before he died at the age of 46. It abounds with intimacy, experiences, reflections and ghosts. He dialogues with desire, sexuality, failure, loneliness, the passage of time or the family, educational and cultural legacy and burden. It is one of the great milestones of the so-called literature of the self in the Catalan language in the transition from the 20th to the 21st century. It resonates with the British playwright Joe Orton and key names in our literary heritage such as Puig i Ferreter, Sagarra and Gaziel. The theatrical adaptation of this material aims to bring the figure of Vilaseca closer and internalise his story and experiences to access our intimacy, shadows and underground spaces.
Josep Maria Miró, dramaturge, and Xavier Albertí, director of the show.
