A provocative and ironic show with songs that will surprise you

The scandal caused by this parody of the poetry contest known as Jocs Florals in 1902 was quite exceptional. The play denounced the exalted idealism of an event that had become a propaganda vehicle for the new Catalan nationalism and revealed the seriousness of the numerous tensions running through Catalan society. A century later, Santiago Rusiñol’s lucid voice still speaks to us... in the form of a wild musical.

The comedy premiered in a context of great social tension, marked by the recent imprisonment of hundreds of trade union leaders and notable politicians such as Prat de la Riba. The controversy worsened when the central government suspended the authentic Jocs Florals de Barcelona because of the whistling at the Spanish flag and instead protected the people attending the Canprosa theatre contest with police officers.
