Hamlet.02

Hamlet, increasingly madder in everyone's eyes, finally finds a way to reap his revenge: theatre

After premiering Hamlet.01 and touring the first act of Shakespeare’s play all over Catalonia, Sergi Belbel and Enric Cambray premiere Hamlet.02 at the TNC to continue surprising the audience and analysing the second act of Hamlet.

Sergi Belbel has turned one of the GREAT tragedies into a real piece of stand-up comedy through the figure of the monologist who narrates and comments on what is happening during the play to the audience. Enric Cambray carries the full weight of the show and plays all the characters, constantly entering and leaving the fiction while analysing this universal play with great humour to be able to get to the heart of the matter.

“Come, let’s go together.” With these words at the end of the first act, Hamlet invites us to follow him. In the second act, many days after the first, Hamlet—now seemingly more mad in the eyes of everyone—finally finds an (unexpected) way to carry out his revenge: the theatre.

After two years performing Hamlet.01, Enric Cambray will dissect the second act of Hamlet before the audience, like a 21st-century monologist (what we now call stand-up comedy). He will speak to us about politics (once again), about friendship (or false friendship: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern), about madness (or feigned madness: his comic relationship with Polonius), about his ambiguous and morally questionable romantic relationship with the unfortunate Ophelia, and about what seems to be, without a doubt, his greatest passion: the actors (The Players), the game, and the art of theatre.
