Time slips away, and we couldn’t allow their stories to be lost
When we talk about our grandmothers’ stories, we often romanticize a nostalgic memory—sometimes harsh, yet also tender. But is this the story that truly defines them?
Grandma is a multidisciplinary performance in which the audience steps into grandma’s dining room to reconstruct and relive her memories. It gives voice to the lives of grandmothers through their testimonies, captured via video call. A show based on documentary sources, where past and present coexist to uncover and understand their stories.
Director’s Note
The memory of our grandma has always been vivid, though we’re not exactly sure what it’s made of—whether it’s the smell of her escudella, her place at the table, or the sound of her voice. When the moment came when she no longer recognized us, and we no longer recognized her, the need to ask questions emerged. And we asked all the grandmas we could.
“What do you want to know?” they asked us.
“Well, everything: what did you do when you were young, how did you live, what did you like, who was your first love, what’s your best memory…”
When we talk about our grandmothers’ lives, we often romanticize a nostalgic memory—sometimes tough, yet also tender. But is this the story that truly defines them?
Time slips away, and we couldn’t allow their stories to be lost.
