One of the most harsh and funny portraits of social hypocrisy ever made.

The glorious career of Oscar Wilde was suddenly ruined with the sentence of two years in prison when he was convicted for indecency in his private life, just three months after premiering this comedy.

The writer, who would never rebuild his life after such a harsh blow, had already often condemned the hypocrisy of a society increasingly more conservative and controlling of the privacy of citizens. A hypocrisy that, premonitorily, would become the protagonist of this delicious masterpiece on the love tangles of two young Englishmen and their secret double lives, which anticipates some of the major vanguards of the 20th century.
