The famous novel about friendship between two enemies in during the war
L’amic retrobat by Fred Uhlman tells through the voice of an adult man, Hans Schwarz, son of a Jewish family, his own story of friendship of over three decades with Konradin Von Hohenfels, son of an aristocratic family from Swabia. The boys meet in the Karl Alexander Gymnasium in Stuttgart, the most famous school in Württemberg, and begin a close relationship in which they share knowledge, ideas, concerns and also contradictions. Initially, the friendship forms outside the political confrontation of the country but, gradually, it will be clouded by the disruptive events and the growing tension experienced in Germany from 1933 with the rise of Nazism and anti-Semitism. The two boys cannot live outside the external circumstances that will begin to be noticeable in their respective families and will also contaminate their friendship causing the definitive separation of their lives.
The playwright Josep Maria Miró has adapted this well-known novel by Fred Uhlman, with clear autobiographical references by the German writer living in England. In this version, the story focuses on three characters: adult Hans, young Hans and young Konradin.
