Macarron Power

Putting ourselves in the shoes of those who are forced to leave their homes

Macarron Power is a reflection on migration seen through the eyes of a girl who tells us her story and that of thousands of people who have to leave their homes by force and head for an uncertain destination, which may not be as welcoming as they hoped.

The world of superheroes is the inspiration for choreographer Sol Picó's new creation, a family show with live music that illustrates the difficulties that our heroine must overcome on her journey and how she faces her fears thanks to the allies and friends she meets along the way.

My intention has been to pay tribute to the victims of migration, especially after the tragedy in Syria. After the impact of Halab, I felt the need to address these issues and encourage reflection in a family audience. I wanted to work on empathy, to put ourselves in the shoes of those who are forced to leave their homes. My goal is to raise awareness, especially among young people, about the difficulties of forced migration. I was attracted to the idea of using comics for this narrative. The characters created to accompany our heroine symbolize strength, flexibility and energy, and guide her towards hope. Through this story, I seek to convey a hopeful message and the desire to tear down the borders that separate people in this world.
