Paraíso de los negros
María Pagés
A flamenco choreography where conflicts and the asymmetrical nature of Humanity reverberate
The Sala Gran welcomes one of the great bailaoras, choreographers and artists of flamenco and contemporary dance: María Pagés. 2022 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts.
Paraíso de los negros is a flamenco choreography that feeds off the tension between the principles of freedom and authority encapsulated in Federico García Lorca’s Poet in New York, the essence of the opposites expressed by the homonymous work by Carl Van Vechten, the telluric philosophy of the negritude of Leopold Sedar Senghor, and Nina Simone’s defence of black desire.
This show is part of the Dansa Metropolitana festival that is celebrated from March 1 to 24 in 12 municipalities of the Metropolitan Area.
