Un mosquit petit

Marc Artigau i Queralt

Dusk. Barcelona. A house in the district of the Eixample. Raquel, head of human resources in a multinational company, has made a very special dinner for someone who is about to arrive. A little before the time arranged, there is a knock on the door: an unexpected stranger, Mr Fidel, has come to the flat bringing dessert. The man wants to talk to her about her son, Toni, who barely a week ago had been fired from the same company where Raquel works. Gradually, the cordial tone of the conversation will become darker and more threatening. Un mosquit petit explores the underlying violence of an economic and social system that justifies disregard for minorities and the weakest in the name of an implacable stability that sometimes forgets the fundamental values of the democratic pact. Where should we place the border between each one’s responsibility and the importance of circumstances? What is concealed in the often boggy space that differentiates defence from revenge? She says she doesn’t smile a lot, that she is always bewildered by a mountain of problems and is always alert. I suppose this should form part of her work, because at any moment they can mess you up. But she also says that when she dares, when she smiles, two little holes appear in her cheeks. She always treats me with respect. (Marc Artigau i Queralt, Un mosquit petit)
