Un Rèquiem per a Salvador Espriu

Production based on the work by Xavier Benguerel Rèquiem a la memòria de Salvador Espriu

Xavier Benguerel’s Rèquiem is a work of synthesis and maturity within the career of this musician, considered one of the most unique personalities of Catalan musical composition of the second half of the 20th century. The recent studies by Rosa Delor, a Salvador Espriu specialist, show that the global meaning of this creator’s work must be understood from his cabalistic vision of the world, in which poetic language is the only human form of naming the inexpressible. For this reason, approaching Espriu’s words above all means reading a mystical poet who with the global scope of his work seeks to translate verbally what cannot be expressed. In Un Rèquiem per a Salvador Espriu, the liturgy of the mass of the dead establishes an intimate dialogue with the mystical poetry of the poet from Sinera. Un Rèquiem per a Salvador Espriu is a production of the TNC, L’Auditori and the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya. [When you come, would I welcome you better from the ashes of an old fire? Or should I await you with the savage howl of the wind through the reeds or the sweet and ever-new deep, monotonous and tranquil song of the calming sea? Perhaps you have to take me suddenly, there in empty rooms, between white walls that saw how my beloved departed submitted to you: frozen prisons where you freed the desire of other lives that were, like me, blind to God. When you come, if I hear you, I must greet you with a loud cry. Because I die utterly bereft of wisdom but very rich in the footsteps of a lost traveller.] (Salvador Espriu, “Thànatos”, El caminant i el mur) Show included in the celebration acts of the Year Espriu
