La última noche con mi hermano

La última noche con mi hermano

An intimate and comical play about brotherhood and grief

"This story comes from a conversation I had with a friend who had lost her brother in December 2024. Talking to her, she told me about the last night she had spent with her brother and this title came to me," explains Alfredo Sanzol.

This is the starting point of La última noche con mi hermano, a play that shifts between comicalness and tragedy to explore family bonds and what remains unsaid. An intimate and vibrant story about memory, loss, and the need to remember together.

Grief over the loss of a sister or brother receives least sympathy in society. It is true that there are many ways to experience brotherhood and sisterhood and it is also true that in many cases it is a matter of experiences in which coldness and distance set in. But it is also true that, often, the relationship between brothers and sisters is an essential part of people's lives and the loss of the other is a real amputation of the being.

This is the story of Nagore, a woman diagnosed with cancer, and her brother Alberto, a man who does not accept his sister's illness and who will have to learn to accept her death. Alberto and Ainhoa have two children, Nahia and Oier, and Ainhoa has a brother, Claudio. This is a family of three pairs of siblings with very different experiences of being brothers and sisters. A family in which Nagore, the woman who lives alone, is an essential pivot.
